2023 Kia K5 vs. 2023 Nissan Altima

The 2023 Kia K5 is a car with a dramatic style, all-wheel drive, and the option of a GT variant. How does it compare to the 2023 Nissan Altima, a car with a crisp appearance, solid gas mileage and numerous safety features?

Design & Style

The Nissan Altima is a moderately sized sedan that has 4 doors and can seat up to five people. It has received a number of updates this year, such as a revised front end, bigger infotainment display, standardized LED headlamps and additional safety functions. Its weight has also been reduced to around 3,200 pounds, which makes it lean with a V shaped grille in front.

The Kia K5 also seats up to five people. It offers an excellent blend of safety and luxury features and its changes for this year including the discontinuation of the introductory LX trim, addition of a panoramic roof for the GT-Line variant as well as standardized heated steering. Acoustic glass has also been added to its frontal door windows in every version except LXS. The grille in front has been compared to the beak of a bird, while along the sides one can see bold yet attractive creases.

Technology & Safety

The NHTSA was very impressed with the Kia K5, and gave it a perfect 5 star review. The IIHS felt the same way, giving the vehicle its Top Safety Pick+ award. Its standard safety gear includes emergency automatic brakes, frontal impact alerts, pedestrian detection, lane management, a camera with surround view, heads up display and parking sensors. Conveniences within the cabin include keyless start, ten inch touch display, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, Bose audio system, remote start and climate control.

The Nissan Altima has earned the same safety accolades as the Kia, including the Top Safety Pick+ and five star NHTSA review. It too has features such as emergency automatic brakes, blind area monitoring, adapted cruise control, airbags and the ability to monitor the attention of drivers. Conveniences within its cabin include remote start, eight inch touch display, powered leather seats, climate control, sunroof and a camera with surround view.

Performance

Those that desire peak performance will purchase the Kia K5 GT, which comes with a turbo 4, 2.5 liter engine that can generate 290 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in around 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. The most powerful Nissan Altima is the SR VC-Turbo, which has a 2 liter, turbo 4 engine that can generate 248 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph.

The Bottom Line

Both cars seat the same number of passengers, have the same safety features, and have earned the industry’s top safety awards. But the Kia K5 has larger touch displays, better fuel economy, more cargo space and a higher top speed, which means it wins in a race, and since both cars are similarly priced this makes the Kia K5 the winner.
