2023 Kia Sportage vs. 2023 Nissan Rogue

The 2023 Kia Sportage is a compact SUV with a stunning appearance, spacious cabin and lots of standardized safety functions. But how does it compare to the 2023 Nissan Rogue, an SUV with a quiet cabin, solid infotainment, and numerous safety functions of its own?

Design & Style

The Nissan Rogue has been described as a compact crossover that can hold up to 5 people. It has a sporty and well-proportioned exterior, and its latest updates for this year have been minimal, other than moderate optional gear shuffling. Its exterior features numerous lines and angles which look best when combined with a dual toned paint theme, and its engine works in conjunction with a transmission that is continuously variable.

The Kia Sportage also seats five people and is now offering off road equipment. For 2023 it has received  a number of enhancements which give it improved driving dynamics along with better convenience and safety functions as well as a bigger exterior and more options overall. It is now in its 5th generation and the designers at Kia have done an excellent job, especially with the hybrid plugin variants.

Technology & Safety

The Kia Sportage earned a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS, which says all that needs to be said about its safety. It comes with all the gear needed to shield and protect its occupants in the event of a crash, or avoid impacts outright with features such as automated high beams, emergency automatic brakes, pedestrian detection, blind area monitoring, multiple airbags and camera projections. Amenities within its cabin include Bluetooth, powered seats that can be cooled or heated, smartphone connectivity, climate control, heated steering and more.

The Nissan Rogue also scored a Top Safety Pick award. It has all the same safety functions as the Kia Sportage, including adapted cruise control, emergency automatic brakes, automated high beams, blind area monitoring and multiple airbags. Amenities within its cabin consist of an eight inch touch display, climate control, seats that can be cooled or heated, panoramic sunroof and a Bose audio system.

Performance

The Nissan Rogue is outfitted with a turbo 3, 1.5 liter engine that can generate 201 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in about 8.2 seconds with a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds. Those that purchase the Kia Sportage hybrid plugin will get a turbo 4, 1.6 liter engine that is paired with a 66.9 kW motor which allows it to generate 261 horsepower, with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in around 7 seconds, with a towing capacity of 2,500 pounds.

The Bottom Line

Though both SUVs seat the same number of passengers, are similarly priced and offer identical safety features, the Kia Sportage has superior horsepower and greater towing capacity, and this makes the Kia Sportage the winner.
