About East Meadow, Nassau, NY
East Meadow is a census-designated place in Nassau County, New York, United States. The area that is now East Meadow was first settled by the Matinecock tribe of Native Americans. In 1644, the land was sold to Thomas Powell who then sold it to James Sands in 1661. The area became known as "Meadow Plains" because of the large meadows that were located in the area.
In 1898, the Long Island Rail Road built a train station in Meadow Plains and railroad executives renamed the area "East Meadow". The name was chosen because it sounded more pleasant than "Meadow Plains".
Since its founding, East Meadow has been a popular suburb for New Yorkers.
