Franklin Square is a census-designated place and hamlet in Nassau County, New York. It's also an unincorporated area in the Town of Hempstead, with a population of 31,537. Over the years, this hamlet has seen a great deal of change, originally being known as Trimming Square before being renamed Washington Square, then as the Franklin Square we know today. George Washington was documented to have visited Franklin Square on his tour of Long Island in 1790 when it was a rural town.
