2022 Kia EV6 vs. 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5

There are two new cars that are on the market right now. They are the 2022 Kia EV6 and the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. Both of them look sleek and come with great features that are hard to beat. If you are considering to buy one out of the two options, this can be a difficult decision for you. Let’s take a deeper look into this comparison so you can make a well-informed choice.

Design & Style

Inside the EV6, you will find an interesting combination of design and layout. The features are more futuristic and attractive than any other Kia model. The EV6 combines high-tech parts such as a digitized dashboard and a center console with plenty of storage solutions and also a big bin underneath.

While it is not as artsy, the Ioniq 5's interior shows off a tech-savvy space with a digitized dashboard as well as eco-friendly materials. One key feature is the head-up display that features augmented reality, and it projects the navigation directions on the windshield.

Technology & Safety

The infotainment system of the EV6 runs through a 12.0-inch touchscreen. It also has the ability to accept over-the-air updates and respond to voice commands. The Kia comes with standard driver-assistance technology such as emergency braking and automatic high-beams.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a 12.0-inch touchscreen that shares the panel on the dash, but the former acts as the hub for your entertainment needs.

Together with driver-assistance technology, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 offers Level 2 autonomous drive mode. It is able to drive and change lanes with almost no driver intervention.

Performance

The EV6 comes with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle or the electric motor on both axles. This can be configured with a rear- or all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive models come with a bigger battery pack and 320 or 576 total horsepower. Meanwhile, the base rear-drive example comes with a smaller battery and only 167 horsepower. Choosing the larger battery will boost the rear-drive EV6's output to 225 horsepower.

The Ioniq 5 has an electric-only powertrain, it comes in various potencies. The standard-range battery combined with the single, rear-mounted electric motor is able to generate 168 horsepower. With the longer-range battery, the rear-drive configuration creates 225 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

The Bottom Line

The 2022 Kia EV6 is the first dedicated EV by the company. The attractive cabin and assertive bodywork make it the first choice for many. On the other hand, the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is an all-electric compact crossover with futuristic styling and a versatile interior. The Hyundai is a great new model but the Kia is still the better option of the two.
