2022 Kia EV6 vs. 2022 Nissan Leaf

As the world further embraces the use of electric vehicles, the competition between them is heating up. We compare the 2022 Kia EV6 vs. the 2022 Nissan Leaf in this matchup. Starting with performance, the Kia has far more to offer.

Design & Style

The Kia is a futuristic-looking vehicle and visually appealing. While past generations of the Leaf were said to look "cartoonish,” that has been rectified at least somewhat with the 2022 model.

The Kia EV6 boasts a design that is both pleasing and considerably future-oriented. With electric vehicles becoming increasingly popular, it makes sense for automakers to design their electric models with a more futuristic aesthetic. The Kia scores big points for both.

Some car buyers look for as many special features as they can get, while others want to drive a vehicle that just looks nice and feels comfy. The Kia EV6 and the Nissan Leaf are both great cars, but the Kia has the edge for interior design. Though the Nissan Leaf rates and eight out of ten for exterior design, today's car buyers want more for their money than a pretty outer package.

The Kia has a sleek and modern look inside. It has numerous built-in features, such as a touch screen display that is easy to use. The seats are also comfortable and supportive, which you'll appreciate on long road trips. The Nissan Leaf rates well where infotainment and other design features are concerned. Unfortunately, when it comes to the interior, the back seats do not fold down. So, if you are looking for more room, you're out of luck. This is actually surprising since most cars today offer fold-down seats.

Technology & Safety

Starting with the technology, the 2022 Kia EV6 has a more extended range than the Nissan Leaf. The Kia can go up to 370 miles on a single charge. This is one area where the Nissan Leaf fails miserably, at least where the lower spec models are concerned. The extended range models do offer an improvement, however.

The Kia EV6 also has fast-charging capabilities. It can be charged up to 80% in just 30 minutes. With a faster charge, it can take 40 to 60 minutes to charge your Nissan Leaf at a charging station. Unfortunately, the Leaf isn't compatible with some charging stations, which is surprising to say the least.

Performance

The Kia EV6 outperforms many of today's vehicles when it comes to engine specs. In terms of fuel economy, the Kia gets an EPA estimated range of 234 miles. It has a maximum torque of 295 lb-ft and accelerates from 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds.

To go from 0 to 60, it takes 7.4 seconds in the Leaf Plus. You'll find a 147-hp electric motor in the standard Leaf model. Other than an unacceptably low range per charge on the lower spec cars, one of the biggest complaints is that the Nissan Leaf simply isn't any fun to drive. If you can't have fun behind the wheel, why bother?

The Bottom Line

Which vehicle is the better option for today’s consumers? The Kia EV6 or the Nissan Leaf? Both are good choices, but the Kia EV6 is simply the preferred option if you're looking for added room via fold-down seats and good driving range per charge.

What's more, if you want to have fun while you're driving, (and who doesn't?), the Nissan Leaf offers an experience that is lacking at best.
