2022 Kia Rio vs. 2022 Honda Civic

When you're shopping for an automobile, many factors are considered. Competition between automakers and specific models gets more and more heated as time goes by. New technology and bigger and better safety features are included on practically everything with four wheels and a passenger area. Here, we will specifically refer to the 2022 Kia Rio and the 2022 Honda Civic.

Both are popular cars, and for good reason. But is one just a little bit better than the other?

Design & Style

In the 2022 Kia Rio, you'll be able to enjoy a simple, pleasant interior. The dashboard has easy-to-use audio and climate controls. For a subcompact, the overall interior is sophisticated and mature. The term "getting a lot of bang for your buck" definitely applies here. For what you will spend, you're getting a lot of car.

The center console is wide and uncluttered looking on the Honda Civic. Ahead of the shift, there's a deep bin for stashing road trip snacks, keys, smart phones, etc. The interior offers a generous cargo space and average passenger space. The Civic’s vents are cleverly hidden behind a mesh, honeycomb patterned design on the dash.

Technology & Safety

Starting with the technology, the wireless smart phone mirroring feature comes standard with the Rio, as well as its 8.0-inch touchscreen. Android and Apple phones can be used with this wireless feature. In fact, a solid array of features come standard in a car whose driving experience is being described as "sophisticated."

The standard infotainment touchscreen on the Civic is somewhat lesser at 7.0 inches. If you want to pay for the larger option at 9.0 inches, that's up to you. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard. Upgrades include wireless smart phone charging pad, Bose stereo system, in-dash navigation, and more.

Performance

A single choice of 120 hp is offered by the Rio’s 1.6 L in-line engine. On the highway, you can expect roughly 41 miles per gallon, and in the city, 33 miles per gallon. Compared to more expensive models, the driving experience in a Rio is similar.

For performance, the Civic rates 8.3 out of 10. Horsepower options range between 158 and 200. On the highway, expect between 36 and 42 miles per gallon. In the city, between 26 and 33 miles per gallon. Reportedly, this year's model is not as quick as last year's. If you're a fan of manual transmissions, you're out of luck where the Civic sedan is concerned.

The Bottom Line

With a straightforward infotainment system, excellent fuel economy, and comfortable, agile driving dynamics, the Kia Rio appeals to the masses. It is a smart choice for families and those without children, as well. No significant changes were made for this model compared to last year's, so Kia clearly has this whole thing figured out – consistently offering the best.

With spry handling, a good amount of technology, decent fuel economy, and a modern cabin, the Honda Civic holds its own. From the base engine, however, the acceleration has been classified as merely "so-so." Since you spend most of your time in the interior of your car, you may also want to do better than the 7.8 out of 10 rating that the Civic received.
